Asteroid YR4 2024 could strike our planet in 2032. It is calculated that the probability of a Near-Earth event is, at the moment of writing, a 93% chance An asteroid is considered to be a potentially hazardous asteroid (PHA) when its orbit comes within 4.6 million miles (7.5 million kilometers) of Earth's orbit. Asteroid YR4 is predicted to be within 4.6 million miles of Earth's orbit. The chance of impact, as of this writing, is 4.9%.
The damage it could do is incalculable. Our civilization has the ability to adapt technologies we have today and repurpose them to deflect or destroy the Asteroid in flight.. But it's not so much the technology, (although re-honing our existing systems will take immense effort and advancement), it's the trillions of dollars needed, and of course, human co-operation. Can man put aside grievances and focus on one potentually earth shattering event?.
Isn't saving the planet enough to convince us to work together for a common good? Can the U. S., arguably the greatest super power in the world, be able to set aside their petty "America first" isolationist policies and work with other nations to defend our planet? Will the current President want something in return for any help the U. S. might give? Asteroid YR4 poses a very credible threat to the future of humanity.
