A Long and Permanent Fall

Rafael Menton brings us the 2025 Edition of "A Long and Permanent Fall". From Lord Clifford and Mrs Bolton in DH Lawrence's "Lady Chatterley's Lover", fiction is full of men of status and authority falling under the influence of the nurses, nannies, and other female employees taking care of them for health or other reasons. In this short but insightful piece on the theme, Mr Menton presents us with a wealthy man, deserted by his wife, who grudgingly finds solace in the take charge attitude of the large and voluptuous African housekeeper his wife once employed. An African housekeeper who knows dependent masculinity when she sees it and considers it makes more sense for the despondent husband to become dependent upon her. Aim achieved when the acquiescence that was at first grudging becomes something far more consensual. A believable and fantasy female-led tale of male-dependency and freely given - eventually - domestic-servitude, for the reader who enjoys having the imagination tweaked rather than bludgeoned.
