Wolfsburg faces piracy and penury as the war of succession rages on. In order to quell both, Burgravine Brynhild and Lady Bigitte must team up with long-term adversary Seneschal Hildebert and his nephew Conrad to appeal to the dukes of Fliedes. They arrive in this strange land to negotiate a security deal, but then someone murders Conrad in a locked room.
