Having been raised by a stepfather who had been prepping for an EMP or some other disaster all her life, Julie had quickly stolen medical supplies as she planned to ride her bike the forty miles home, where she knew she would be safe. Meanwhile, Ron Crain, Julie's brother, was sitting on a boat in San Francisco harbor, and he and two classmates had planned a day of fishing.
Knowing it was their only chance, they took this old cabin cruiser up the coast and headed home.
