The narrative of Abraham's sons-Isaac, central to Judaism and Christianity, and Ishmael, pivotal in Islam-introduces divergent theological lineages. The willingness of Abraham to sacrifice his son (Isaac in Jewish and Christian traditions, Ishmael in Islamic tradition) exemplifies ultimate faith and submission to God, a theme deeply embedded across the three faiths.
The Spirit of Cain: Division and ConflictThe "spirit of Cain" symbolizes division, envy, pride, and exclusivism leading to violence and fractured relationships. This metaphor extends to religious history, illustrating how claims of exclusive divine favor have fostered arrogance, suspicion, sectarianism, and dehumanization across Abrahamic traditions. Manifestations include:·        External Persecution: Early Christians faced Roman persecution for their exclusive monotheism, which they endured as martyrdom strengthening their faith .·        Internal Divisions: Christianity experienced schisms such as the Great Schism (1054) and heresies like Arianism; Judaism saw sectarian tensions between Pharisees and Sadducees; Islam underwent the Sunni-Shia split over leadership succession.
