The Runway: Miss X

The stage lights at Miss X 2024 were blinding. As I was crowned, the air curdled with tension. Emcee Max Wells halted the ceremony, voice trembling as he announced a "scoring discrepancy." Standing there, the crown heavy, I wasn't a winner; I was a lightning rod for suspicion. The celebration with my mother, Vivian, was shattered when rumors of bribery exploded. The press descended; as security dragged my mother away, I was left alone, my integrity turned to ash.
Back home, the nightmare intensified. My title was declared "provisional, " and the media backlash was relentless. A confrontation with my mother revealed the truth: she had bought my crown with a donation to the head judge. Isolated, I received an anonymous text: The crown will be taken back. When head judge Brandi confirmed that I was a curated puppet, I realized I was trapped in a game I never agreed to play.
The Committee put me on "provisional hold." A reporter threatened to leak the audio, so I recorded a defiant video that went viral. It only prompted Brandi to inform me they intended to reopen the judging. To survive, I shed the pageant persona, swapping sequins for a suit. At a press conference, I denied knowledge of the bribe but refused to resign. I placed the crown on the podium-not as a sign of defeat, but as a rejection of their rules.
I was no longer their girl; I was the woman they feared. Chairwoman Diane Cortes cleared my name, but the peace was hollow. A message from my rival, Lacey, signaled a truce. After Lacey exposed the industry's toxicity, Diane offered me a seat at the table to reshape the organization. Diane warned that I had entered a global game with dangerous players. Whisked into a private meeting, I became a leader for the Global Beauty Gala.
There, I was surrounded by predators like mogul Isabelle Montgomery, who treated me like an asset. Diane tasked me with a secret mandate: dismantle the rot from within. My new alliance made me a target. When Isabelle and her "Unity Council" consolidated power, I ignited a revolt, launching a clandestine audit. The gala ended with Diane naming me a structural ambassador, drawing battle lines. With Lacey, we began excavating the committee's corruption, hunting for the legendary "Maribel Report."But the threat became personal.
When Vivian discovered my role, she went nuclear, inadvertently aligning with my mission. In retaliation, the committee threatened to smear me with the "Halo Red" file. Just as I was about to break them, a package labeled "Specter" arrived. The shadows were inside. Overwhelmed, I buckled and burned the evidence, choosing my mother's safety over the war. Lacey, disgusted, walked away. I was trapped in the penthouse, a ghost in a machine, forced into hollow photoshoots.
But the fire remained. I returned to training, preparing for a final strike. At the State Appearance, I performed with chilling poise. When they named me the winner, I publicly rejected the crown and placed it on Olivia, the only honest person there. The chaos that erupted was the sound of the machine breaking. The Specter protocol was active, and for the first time, I was the one holding the deck.
