Résumé

For years, rumours of the "Marsh Girl" have haunted Barkley Cove, a quiet town on the North Carolina coast. So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.
Then the time comes when she yearns to be loved. When two young men from town become intrigued by her wild beauty, Kya opens herself to a new life - until the unthinkable happens.

Delia Owens
North Carolina, 1950s. Kya is six when her family starts abandoning her. In a matter of months, her mother, brothers and sisters, and then her father, all leave the shack in the marsh by the sea. She's left to grow up alone. In the neighboring town in 1969, Chase Andrews, once the town's football star, is found dead. The Marsh Girl is soon accused of the crime. 'Where the crawdads sing' is a story of loneliness, the portrait of one of the most interesting characters I've had the pleasure of discovering in quite a while. Delia Owens' background as a biologist and zoologist allows for some amazing nature writing, while the investigation builds slowly but surely. A fantastic debut novel.
