Résumé

In 2018, Feltre-born architect Ferruccio Franzoia donated over 800 Venetian glass pieces, showcasing the creativity of the most skillful glassmakers and most celebrated artists and designers, to the City of Feltre for permanent display at the Galleria Rizzarda. Franzoia assembled such remarkable collection with his wife, Carla Nasci, over more than 30 years of passionate research, purchases, and lucky discoveries in antique shops, depots, fairs, and auctions in Italy and abroad.
This richly illustrated catalogue, boasting over 500 images, displays the production of V.S.M.Cappellin-Venini & C., M.V.M. Cappellin & C. ; and Venini, emphasizing the role played by the designers who worked with Giacomo Cappellin and Paolo Venini. It also includes an assortment of glassware by other Venetian glassworks, designed by masters who shared the same deep knowledge of this ancient tradition.
Along with the technical sheets, the volume offers a group of essays forming on Carlo Rizzarda's glasswork collection, the archaeological and iconographic sources of the pieces on display, glass production at the great expositions of decorative arts of the past century, and the prominent figures of Vittorio Zecchin and Carlo Scarpa, in addition to a thorough portrait of the collector. An extraordinary look at the history of glass in the twentieth century, beginning from its turning point in the 1920s, through one of the most significant testimonies of this art.
