A spectre is haunting Western academia, the spectre of the Cartesian subject. The Ticklish Subject confronts Deconstructionists and Habermasians, cognitive scientists and Heideggerians, feminists and New Age obscurantists by unearthing a subversive core to this elusive spectre, and by finding in this core the indispensable philosophical point of reference for any genuinely emancipatory politics.
