T. M. Devine is the Personal Senior Research Professor of History at the University of Edinburgh and Director of the Scottish Centre for Diaspora Studies. He is an honorary member of the Royal Irish Academy, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a Fellow of the British Academy, the only historian elected to all major three national academies in the British Isles. In 2001, Professor Devine was awarded the Royal Gold Medal, Scotland's supreme academic accolade.
