Charles-Joseph Minard's remarkable flow map of Napoléon's 1812 march into Russia is considered to be one of the most magnificent data graphics ever produced. Less well-known are the rest of Minard's contributions - the nineteenth century civil engineer produced an entire collection of statistical graphics chronicling the social and economic changes of the Industrial Revolution in Europe and around the world.
