The end of drum-time' In 1851, on the isolated Scandinavian tundra, the fierce Lutheran minister Mad Lasse fights to bring the Sámi reindeer hunters to his faith. When one of the community's most respected herders converts, his rebellious son, Ivvár, is left alone to guard their herd.
By chance, he encounters Willa, Mad Lasse's curious daughter - and a love between them sparks amid the chaos of borders closing and ethnic tensions rising. As the arduous annual reindeer migration north to the sea begins, can their love survive not only the wilderness but the looming threat to the Sámi way of life ?
