Résumé

The American Otis family get more than they bargain for when they move into the English stately home of Canterville Chase. No matter how much they refuse to believe the rumours, the mansion is indeed haunted. The ghost of Sir Simon de Canterville has roamed the halls and corridors for some three hundred years, ever since he murdered his wife them ; but now this new family has arrived to pester him ! As you would expect from Oscar Wilde, this charming story is full of humour and wit, dealing with a culture clash between "modern America" and "traditional Britain" in the late 1800s.
In this wonderful tale, Wilde cleverly turns the familiar gothic horror format on its head to create what could be called the first gothic horror comedy.
