Tadao Ando : The Colours of Light was a landmark in architectural publishing when it was first published in 1996. This brand new edition, like the original, is an exquisite work of art in its own right, and is the result of ten years' collaboration between the photographer Richard Pare and architect Tadao Ando. Richard Pare's images distil the "essence" of Tadao Ando's buildings rather than producing literal portraits.
Pare concentrates on the subtle effects that natural light has on architecture. Working without the aid of artificial effects he captures as directly as possible the colour and atmosphere of Ando's spaces. The photographic portfolio, digitally remastered for this edition, and brand new sketches created by Tadao Ando, are complemented by an appendix documenting the projects with photographs and line drawings, together with a list of Ando's major works worldwide.
