Sources for this new edition were Bernstein's pencil manuscripts of the clarinet and piano score, and also the separate clarinet part. Every detail of the sonata has been carefully prepared and reconsidered. The enharmonic note spellings in the clarinet part, different from the most recently available edition of the sonata, reflect Bernstein's manuscript and the first published edition. The result is a fresh look at one of the most important and beloved pieces of twentieth century clarinet repertoire.
