The present Sechs Duos für zwei Flöten by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart are transcriptions of Chamber music works in various settings by the master, which Wilhelm Barge and Emil Wehsener edited for this publisher at the turn of the last Century, following similar editions published by André and by Simrock 100 years previously. This new edition attempts to correct certain irregularities in the bibliographic references caused by the first editors.
Obviously it was not possible to create a "scientific" new edition : these Duos are post-compositions which retain Mozart's original melodic line but otherwise treat the musical material very freely. Their purpose is to present pleasant-sounding, flute-oriented and thus easily performable music. Further information regarding the true origin of the pieces can be found at each of the Duos.
