Résumé
ROA CODEX is the first monograph by the internationally acclaimed artist. This book explores continent by continent the colossal, monochrome murals that have earned ROA worldwide recognition. Like a contemporary animalier, ROA depicts his characteristic animais either as dynamic compositions or as still lifes of several motionless animais stacked on top of each other, the human spectator seemingly looking on alienated.
ROA paints a haunting picture of the fate befalling many animais. His art can often be considered as contem-porary public monuments to the quickly declining num-ber of animal species ; nonetheless the works represent an ode to the animal kingdom. With more than 300 images and text contributions by, among others, American art critic Lucy Lippard and artist Robert Williams, ROA CODEX offers a unique reflection on the past ten years of the nomadic artist.
