Résumé

The exhibition catalogue Resisting the Present: Mexico 2000/2012 offers a view of the young Mexican art scene, with its innovative discourse that proposes a reformulation of art in interaction with everyday life, as part of an active social space. The volume presents 24 artists working in different media (installations, video, design, photography, and film), all of them acutely aware of present-day circumstances and of how, now more than ever before, art lives and functions as a revealer of states of emergency, inviting the participation of all.
Their most significant works directly address the social and political issues in which they are involved.Drawing on a range of strategies, including fictions, poetic activism, and the use and reinterpretation symbols, the works of these artists translate visually the tensions and multiple paradoxes of societies facing the challenges of globalization nowadays.
