Résumé

Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, born in a Parisian slum and abandoned on the streets, discovers he has art extraordinary - near superhuman - sense of smell. As he sniffs his way across France, this gift is exploited by Grenouille to make the world's most marvellous perfumes. Yet in seeking perfection in his experiments, he realizes that a vital ingredient is missing for the perfect scent : innocence. And in order to get the ingredient he needs, he must capture it - whatever the price.

À propos de l'auteur

Patrick Süskind

Biographie de Patrick Süskind

Patrick Süskind was born in 1949. He studied history in Munich and was a writer for television before he wrote Perfume. His second novel, The Pigeon, was later adapted for the stage, and his play, The Double-Bass, has become one of the most performed plays in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. It has also been performed at the Edinburgh Festival and at the National Theatre in London. His novella The Story of Mr Sommer was published in 1992 and Three Stories and a Reflection was published in 1996.
In 2006 Perfume was made into a major film starring Ben Whishaw. Working under the name Fabrica Grafica, Jan Van Der Veken has been active since 1999 and has steadily grown into a household name. Van Der Veken developed his own artistic style, inspired by the atoomstijl (Atomic style), a 1980s "relaunch" of the Ligne claire. Working as Fabrica Grafica, he creates custom-made future retro illustrations that float between past and future with a good mix of hand-lettering and graphical design.
Van Der Veken's work has appeared on the cover of the New Yorker, and in many other places.
