1984 von Erfurter Frauen um Gabriele Stötzer gegründet, lebte die Künstlerinnengruppe Erfurt einen radikalen künstlerischen Gegenentwurf zur Enge des DDR-Alltags und engagierte sich vielseitig in der Nachwendezeit. In ihren Super-8-Filmen, Bildern, Mode-Objekt-Shows, Performances und Texten vereinten sie Konzepte weiblicher Selbstermächtigung, Kollektivität und Gesellschaftskritik, die bis heute hochaktuell sind.
Subversiv, witzig, von großer innerer Freiheit getragen, geben ihre Kunstwerke Einblick in die kaum bekannte feministische Subkultur der DDR. Founded in 1984 by several women allied with Gabriele Stötzer, the Erfurt Women Artists' Group pursued an artistic vision in radical opposition to the strictures of everyday life in the GDR and contributed in various ways to shaping the period following the fall of the Berlin Wall.
Their exploration of female self-empowerment, collective action, and cultural criticism - still highly relevant today - is cogently manifested in Super 8 films, images, live performances, fashion-object shows, and texts. - Subversive, witty, sustained by a clear sense of personal freedom, their art works provide insight into a little-known feminist subculture in the GDR.
