A father and his boys have won 'the war' : the father's term for his bitter divorce and custody battle. Settling in the bright heat and stark landscape of suburban Albuquerque, the brothers join new schools while their father works from their cramped apartment, smoking cheap cigars to hide a worse habit. Soon his missteps become sinister, and the boys find themselves watching the man they love transform into someone they no longer recognize.
