In September 1970, the author arrived in Basel, a city she had initially chosen for its vast library and the help it would give her in writing her thesis and ultimately becoming a German teacher. She closed the door fifty years later, in December 2019, and began reflecting on the surprising fact that a woman had managed to not only infiltrate that male-dominated universe, and but also to really thrive there...
