SOLVEJ BALLE (b.1962) rose to fame in the 1990s but then disappeared for almost thirty years. Her international breakthrough came with According to the Law : Four Accounts of Mankind (1993), which was published in more than ten territories. Balle has self-published the first five volumes of On the Calculation of Volume. She lives on the island of Aero. BARBARA J. HAVELAND (b. 1951) is a Scottish literary translator, resident in Copenhagen.
