Résumé

To reflect recent research developments, the 6th edition of this classic work provides an up-to-date account of the nonlinear phenomena occurring inside optical fibers, which form the basis of our entire telecommunications infrastructure, while also being used in the medical and other technological areas. New edition includes : - New sections on optical frequency combs and cavity solitons, extension of a supercontinuum into the ultraviolet and mid-infrared regions, higher-order nonlinear effects ; - Extensive update to Chapter 13 on Supercontinuum Generation, reflecting the use of chalcogenide fibers that extends supercontinuum into the mid-infrared region ; - A new chapter, devoted to nonlinear phenomena in multimode and multicore fibers ; - New appendices to discuss the nonlinear response of fibers and to present a mathematically rigorous derivation of the pulse-propagation equation ; - General updates and improvements for all chapters ; - 26 new figures.
