Résumé

Generation after generation of pianists and aficionados have taken an interest in Beethoven's piano sonatas. For each of them, this "New Testament" of piano literature represents a challenge. Jan Marisse Huizing supports the search for their own "tone". In his new study book, he deals with the performance practice and the history of piano making as well as Beethoven's own piano playing. He also traces the path from the original manuscript to the modern urtext edition.
Quotations from piano methods and important pianists as well as a detailed, annotated discography complete the book. Jan Marisse Huizing was professor of piano at the Amsterdam Conservatory apart from his international concert activities. He has written numerous publications, including the guide Frédéric Chopin : Die Etüden (Schott Music).
