Résumé
Kyrie is the only movement completed from a planned Mass and was left unperformed at the time of the composer's death. The edition was prepared for publication from the original manuscript by his son Mikolaj. Scored for choir, percussion, piano and string orchestra, the 15-minute work is characteristic of the composer's late style with its repeating pulses on bass drum, tam-tam and low keyboard, tolling bells and chant-like choral exclamations of the Kyrie text, before a calm final benediction.
The work was premiered in St John's Cathedral, Warsaw, at Easter 2014. Instrumentation : mixed choir (SATB), percussion, piano and string orchestra op. 83
