Howard Singerman is chair of the Department of Art and Art History at Hunter College, New York, and is the author of Art Subjects : Making Artists in the American University and Art History, After Sherrie Levine. Frances Stark is a Los Angeles-based artist and writer who has shown her work extensively in the U.S. and Europe. Ali Subotnick, curator at the Hammer Museum since late 2006, organized this exhibition in close collaboration with Frances Stark.
