Opera arrangements for four flutes from the 19th century are difficult to find, while there are numerous arrangements for other instrumentations. So why not use a good opera transcription as the basis for a romantic-style fantasy on opera themes ? For this edition, we chose one of the eight opera transcriptions op. 45 for flute and piano by Joachim Andersen (1847 - 1909). Partly, the interludes have been modified, and the whole work has been shortened ; articulation marks have been adapted so far as to conform to the original text ; in particular the middle voices have been modified.
