It is part of a structured teaching method incorporating a substantial amount of online supporting materials : hundreds of sound examples and interactive examples, programs written in Max, as well as a library of Max objects created especially for this book.
Alessandro Cipriani co-authored "Virtual Sound", a textbook on Csound programming. His compositions have been performed at major festivals and electronic music venues and released on CDs and DVDs issued by Computer Music Journal, International Computer Music Conference, CNI, Edipan, Everglade as well as others. He has written music for the Beijing Opera Theater, as well as for films, theatre, and documentaries in which ambient sounds, dialog, and music all fuse together, interchangeably.
He is a tenured professor in electronic music at the Conservatory of Frosinone, a founding member of the Edison Studio in Rome, and a member of the editorial board of the journal Organised Sound (published by Cambridge University Press). With the collective Edison Studio, he composed 6 surround soundtracks for silent films including Battleship Potemkin, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and Inferno, all published on DVD by the Cineteca di Bologna.
He has given seminars at several European and American universities, including the University of California — Santa Barbara, Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow, DMU-Leicester. Maurizio Giri is a composer, teacher, and audio software developer. He teaches Composition at the Conservatory of Latina and Max programming at the Conservatories of Latina and Frosinone. He writes instrumental and electroacoustic music, computer applications for algorithmic composition, electroacoustic improvisation and live performance, and has published several tutorials on Max.
He founded Amazing Noises, a software house that develops music applications and plug-ins for mobile devices and computers. He is Ableton's partner for the development of Max for Live devices. He was "artist in residence" at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, and at GRAME in Lyon. He collaborated with members of the Nicod Institute, a research center of the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris, on a project about the philosophy of sound.
