Angeregt durch den außerordentlichen Erfolg seines Albums für die Jugend op. 68, das Ende 1848 erschienen war und reißenden Absatz fand, nahm Schumann im September 1849 die Arbeit an einem Zyklus für Klavier zu vier Händen auf, der sich - wie auch das Album - an junge Klavierspieler richtet. Über eine hausmusikalische Darbietung des darin enthaltenen Bärentanz berichtet eine Freundin der Schumanns: "Den Bärentanz spielte er mit köstlichem Humor, förmlich mit den Händen die tölpischen Bewegungen des Bären nachahmend,..."Die Ausgaben basieren auf Band III/2/1 (RSA 1023) der Robert-Schumann-Gesamtausgabe.Schwierigkeitsgrad: 2

Prompted by the extraordinary success of his Album for the Youth Op. 68 which was published at the end of 1848 and sold like hot cakes, Schumann started to work on a cycle for piano duet in September 1849 which, like the Album, is aimed at young piano players. A friend of the Schumanns said about a home performance of the Bear's Dance contained therein : 'He played the Bear's Dance with exquisite humour, smiling roguishly while imitating with his hands the clumsy movements of the bear,...
