Résumé

There are several issues on which applied linguists take very different positions. This book presents controversies between prominent scholars arguing different positions, and directs attention to the main points at issue. Barbara Seidlhofer provides detailed introductions to each topic, and suggestions for further reading. There are 33 key articles reprinted in their entirety, and thus made accessible in one volume.
In addition, 50 study questions are included at the end of the book. These help readers to engage critically with the original articles, and to investigate their own reactions to these controversies. Barbara Seidlhofer is Professor of English and Applied Linguistics at the University of Vienna.
