Résumé
A setting of Robert Frost's poem, Tree at my window commissioned by Hereford Chamber Choir as part of their Dymock Poets Re-Imagined project. It was first performed alongside six other new settings of texts by the Dymock Poets as part of the Ledbury Poetry Festival on 8 July 2023, with follow up performances in 2024 at the Hay Festival and Three Choirs Festival in Worcester. A beautiful solo soprano melody opens the piece and thereafter the choir and soloist share the journey through the thoughtful text, a contemplation on nature and life, with rich harmonies and a largely homophonic texture.
The well-constructed vocal lines and occasional divisi make the piece suitable for intermediate choirs. Tree at my window can be performed a cappella or with a nature-inspired backing track, available from Boosey & Hawkes directly. Instrumentation : soprano and mixed choir (SATB divisi) a cappell
