Résumé
Agostino Bonalumi is one of the leading figures of post-war Italian art. Together with his friends Piero Manzoni and Enrico Castellani – all of whom were followers of Lucio Fontana – he renewed the concept of artistic space by broadening its field of action through extroflexions of the pictorial surface. Thanks to forms projected beyond the space of the traditional canvas, the "picture" transformed into the "painting-object".
The result is painting that does not represent space, rather presents it in all of its articulations whilst never abstaining from the formal dimension of art. This book, edited by Marco Meneguzzo, bears witness to the importance of Bonalumi's career. He was steadfast in his theoretical intentions through sixty years of Italian and international visual culture. He was open to change, to variations, to metamorphosis, as long as these complied ethically with the relationship between ideas and the world, between absolute ideals and tangible, physical, tactile reality – as befits a true artist.
