Alexander Rosenblatt, born in 1956 in Moscow, the son of a violinist and a pianist, studied at the Moscow Conservatory from 1975 to 1982 with Prof. Pavel Messner (piano) and Prof. Karen Khachaturian (composition). As a student of jazz his work is characterized by the crossover between jazz and contemporary music, as well as elegant virtuosity. His "Blues" for cello and piano is an interesting extension of the concert repertoire.
The piece was premiered by Yo-Yo Ma in 1993 in Amsterdam. Instrumentation : cello and piano
