On the day she buries her mother, Tansy wakes up in hospital having poisoned herself with drugs and alcohol. It's time to get away from it all. Of course, there's only one chic destination - and visions of swanning around the romantic streets of south-east Asia with the peace and serenity of an Englishwoman Abroad are all too tempting. At least after a year off she'll return to London skinny, tanned and wise, won't she ? But Vietnam is not the Vogue shoot Tansy imagined ; it's smelly, full of grim backpackers and ungrateful locals, not to mention an unfortunate spate of murders of fellow travellers. Still, she can't give up. She's gone to find herself and that is exactly what she intends to do.
