Begun in April 1970, the unfinished manuscript of this piece was lost for many years. On its accidental rediscovery the composer decided to complete the work, which he did in April 2006. The piece is cast in a single movement with contrasting sections. The composer remarks that "the sharp contrasts between different textures could perhaps be understood as depicting the changing moods of the 'cruellest month'".
