Résumé

Since beginning her practice in 1990, Indian Anupama Kundoo (b.1967) has gained international recognition for her architecture. Her practice builds on her research into Indian building traditions and use of materials, and into future ways of living. Translating ancient techniques into a modern vocabulary in her buildings, Kundoo rethinks the potential of a more collective and sustainable lifestyle.
Kundoo has divided her work as an architect into three equally important branches : practice, research and teaching. In addition, she bases her architecture on what she considers one of our most valuable resources, because of its scarcity in late modernity : time. Accompanying the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art's exhibition of Anupama Kundoo in 2020, this is the fourth volume in the series The Architect's Studio.
Featuring an essay by Edwin Heathcote, an interview with Anupama Kundoo by Martha Thorne and the architect's own manifesto on the subject of time, the book opens a window into Kundoo's working methods. Richly illustrated, the book also includes a chapter about Anupama Kundoo's big Line of Goodwill housing project in the experimental city of Auroville in Southern India.
