This catalogue accompanies the first exhibition dedicated to the drawings of Antoine Caron (1521-1599). Focusing on an important group of works celebrating the French royal family, the Valois, it highlights the role played by the powerful Regent and Queen Mother, Catherine de' Medici (1519-1589). Here reunited for the first time, the remarkable Valois series of drawings showcase the way in which Catherine promoted her legacy through a series of extraordinary and lavish courtly festivals, which were designed to project the power and status of her family.
