Résumé

Agnès Pelton (1881-1961) wrote of her abstract, highly symbolic compositions that her paintings were "like little windows" which provide a view of what is inside. The subjects of her spiritually inspired pictures are rooted in the desert of California. The artist had been born in Stuttgart but settled there in 1932 and lived there until her death. After being forgotten for many years, public attention is increasingly being focused on Pelton's art, illustrating her important artistic contribution to American Modernism.
