Rohinton Mistry was born in Bombay in 1952 and has lived in Canada since 1975 His first novel, Such a Long Journey, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and won the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book, the Governor General's Award, and the W. H. Smith/Books in Canada First Novel Award. A Fine Balance was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award, and won both the Commonwealth Writers Prize for Best Book and the Winifred Holtby Memorial Prize.
Rohinton Mistry's most recent novel is Family Matters which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize 2002, and winner of the Kiriyama Prize for fiction.
