25 Studies. op. 38. guitar.

The first edition of the "Etudes de Genre" (25 Etudes de Genre pour la Guitare par Nap. Coste Op : 38) by Napoléon Coste was published by Richault in Paris in 1873. Following his normal practice, Coste conceived the studies for a seven-string guitar. This instrument was extended in the bass region by the addition of a seventh string tuned usually to D but occasionally to C. In adapting these studies for a six-string guitar both the tuning down of the sixth string to D, which is customary today, as well as the octave transpositions recommended by Coste himself have been taken into account.
The sequence of the studies has been altered in order to make it more progressive. Instrumentation : guitar op. 38

Wie bei Coste üblich, sind die Etüden für eine siebensaitige Gitarre konzipiert. Dieses Instrument war im Bassbereich um eine siebte Saite erweitert, die zumeist auf D, gelegentlich auch auf C, eingestimmt wurde. Bei der Einrichtung für die 6-saitige Gitarre wurden sowohl die heute übliche Skordatur der 6. Saite nach D als auch von Coste selbst vorgeschlagene Oktavversetzungen berücksichtigt. Die Reihenfolge der Etüden wurde im Sinne einer progressiven Folge geändert.
