Résumé

"The Adventures of Poor Mrs. Quack" by Thornton W. Burgess is a tale that follows the journey of Mrs. Quack, a duck who faces numerous challenges during her migration from the sunny Southland to her home in the far North. The story begins with Peter Rabbit encountering Mrs. Quack at the Smiling Pool, where she shares her harrowing experiences. Mrs. Quack recounts the dangers she and her mate, Mr. Quack, faced from hunters with terrible guns during their journey.
Despite the perils, they managed to reach the Big River, only for Mr. Quack to be shot and separated from her. Heartbroken and alone, Mrs. Quack seeks refuge at the Smiling Pool, where she meets Peter Rabbit and Jerry Muskrat. They offer her sympathy and try to assure her of safety, especially from Farmer Brown's boy, who is kind-hearted and leaves food for her. However, Mrs. Quack remains distrustful due to her past experiences with humans.
As the story unfolds, Peter Rabbit and Sammy Jay devise a plan to help Mrs. Quack find Mr. Quack. Sammy suggests that he and his cousin, Blacky the Crow, who are not afraid of hunters, search the banks of the Big River for Mr. Quack. The narrative highlights themes of survival, trust, and the impact of human actions on wildlife. Through the characters' interactions, Burgess emphasizes the importance of empathy and cooperation in overcoming adversity.
