Résumé
This work develops a multidisciplinary framework for rethinking oncology care environments as integrated systems of psychological, sensory, and spatial healing. Moving beyond conventional clinical architecture, it investigates how environmental conditions shape patient experience, emotional regulation, and physiological stress responses throughout the cancer care journey. Drawing from environmental psychology, neuroaesthetics, sensory integration theory, trauma-informed design, and biophilic principles, the study reframes healthcare spaces as active participants in therapeutic processes rather than passive containers for medical procedures.
Particular attention is given to how sensory overload, spatial transitions, temporal uncertainty, and architectural aesthetics influence anxiety, fatigue, and perceived safety in oncology settings. The work also integrates concepts from contemplative spatial traditions, especially Japanese tea-house architecture and transitional garden systems such as the Roji (tea garden), to illustrate how controlled sensory reduction, ritualized movement, and environmental restraint can support attentional calm and emotional stabilization.
Across conceptual facility blueprints, patient journey mapping, quiet architecture, biophilic design, and integrative care models, the text proposes a coherent design philosophy in which healing is understood as an emergent property of coordinated spatial, sensory, and relational systems. The work argues that oncology environments should be designed not only for medical efficiency but also for ethical and experiential integrity, where architecture actively supports dignity, reduces unnecessary suffering, and fosters conditions for psychological and physiological recovery.
