Résumé

This book is important to ALL people who wish to become writers some day. Specifically, however, it focuses on teachers and students because, essentially, this is where any kind of  writing begins. When it comes to education matters, especially writing, the problem may not be so much what we know but how to present it to those who need to read it to prove that we know what we are required to know.
More often than not, students will have a lot of facts but fail to present them in a way that they will easily be understood. In some cases, especially in high school and colllege, the problem gets even bigger. We do not only need to present what is expected but examiners require it presented in a specific manner. Essay writing skills therefore become crucial. Examiners will gauge both what we know - the content of our essays - and how it is presented.
Both combine to form the total mark we get for our essays. This happens in cases where we may not even be shown exactly how to write those essays. This book becomes crucial in that it tackles this question point by point, showing the high school and college student what to do in order to earn high marks in high school and college essays. This goes for essays written in English/Literature as a subject and for all other essays written in other disciplines.
Though broadly based on the KENYA CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EXAMINATION requirements, which sees students matriculate into colleges, its ideas have universal application for essay writing is basically similar. The only changes might be the LENGTH of the essays required and the TIME given for each essay which might differ from place to place, level to level etc. With the ideas taught here, however, any student should be able to adjust to the requirement of the local exam and get an A GRADE in any essay.
As already hinted above, anybody who wishes to become a good writer - whether it is the poet, the short-story writer, the novelist or even the playwright - these writing skills are crucial. All that is needed is expanding the sample essays given here, especially the narrative essays, into larger short stories or novellas. The planning and execution remains basically the same.
