Wolfe & Montcalm

The 1759 battle for Quebec between the British under General James Wolfe and the French under the Marquis de Montcalm was a watershed in the history of North America. Fought between relatively small numbers of troops on both sides, the summer-long struggle culminated in the fight just outside the walls of the city, on the Plains of Abraham. The British victory there spelled the end of French colonial aspirations in Canada.
By expelling the French menace, British military presence became unnecessary to the American colonies and therefore helped pave the way to Revolution a few years later.
