After a whirlwind courtship, he persuades her to join him at his remote estate and bring modern medicine to the village. The villagers believe the family is cursed, and soon Scarlet begins to fear her fate is bound to that of another bride .
JANE YANG is a pen name chosen by a feng shui master who insisted that magic is essential if Jane is to realize her publishing dream. To maximize good luck, she must also keep an aquarium with a minimum of five fish, which turns out to be much harder than it sounds-fish are not easy to keep, especially with an assassin plant poisoning the water! Yang was born in the Chinese enclave of Saigon and raised in Australia where she grew up on a diet of superstition and family stories from Old China.
Despite establishing a scientific career, first as a pharmacist and later in clinical research, she is still sometimes torn between modern, rational thinking and the pull of old beliefs in tales that have been passed down in the family. She is the author of The Lotus Shoes.
