Olivia, the Orb Spider is one in a series of Winston Warthog's adventures with his friends. Winston, who lives in the South African bush, tells of his encounters with his friend, Olivia the Orb Spider. One day he runs into Olivia's web in his efforts to escape a rather large elephant called Emily. Thereafter follows a story, based on the facts about the life of orb spiders - their eating habits, mating habits and how they die after laying their eggs.
The story has a bit of everything - love, fear, sadnesss, joy - and paints a gentle picture of the reality of life in the bush. The idea is to encourage and nurture children's interest in, and respect of nature. Julie describes herself as having a passion for the planet and nature. This series of books was born out of her desire to nurture in children from an early age, the same interest in, and respect for nature and the beautiful fauna and flora we are blessed to live with.
She studied Psychology and Sociology, and later on, Marketing Management, her curiosity keeping her in the market research industry for many years. Karen has drawn and painted ever since she can remember. She went on to Art College after school and has worked across all the various disciplines and mediums throughout her life. She is an Art Therapist as well as a teacher, but now chooses to work towards finding her own voice as it unfolds again and again.
Julie and Karen has been friends since they were 5 years old.
