Résumé
When man becomes god addresses the problematic future that the world will be confronted by over the next few decades. This problem is a danger that threatens the being of the human being itself in a way that it may not be able to be regained. This danger belongs to the movement of transhumanism and its desire to leave our humanity behind for the sake of the posthuman in which we become a being without limitation.
A being that is unlimited in its expression and capability, whether that is immortality, cybernetic enhancements, or digital consciousness. The threat from transhumanists is addressed by this book through the work of Heidegger and particularly the work of later Heidegger to establish the meaning of this danger as one that is ontologically endangering for Dasein. From this, a possible saving power is worked out and presented through a phenomenological Heideggerian interpretation of experience itself and beauty.
The experience of beauty is the very thing that transhumanists place themselves antithetical to, and it is through understanding this phenomenon and the manner in which it can be brought forth that the human being can be saved and the beauty of the world; the wonder of being, can be protected.
