Résumé
The book starts with Angela's eyes opening to the realization of what she had done. The memory that she had shot Toby began to flash before her eyes, and the guilt starts to catch up to her. She refuses to see Toby for weeks before she finally gathers the courage to do so. In the meantime, Angela and David become closer than they had ever been as they start to heal together. David invites Angela to a masquerade ball, and just as they step out into the open, the camera flashes start. The couple goes into the public eye for the first time, and as David says, "I love you, " she freezes, and now, it seems as if everything is perfect between the two of them.
The rest of the days blend until David's past starts to catch up with him. He is left with no other option but to let Angela go to take part in a war. The book ends with David letting Angela go in the middle of an abandoned street in Brooklyn.
