Résumé
Through the Briars and Brush is set in Boone, North Carolina, during the Victorian 1890s. It tracks August Sidney's revival over the span of five years. Sidney, as he prefers to be called, has had a troublesome past. He grew up in an orphanage that flooded when he was fifteen years old. Shortly after, he enlisted in the most dangerous gang anyone had heard of: The Coyotes. Then he became addicted to alcohol, reverting to the very addiction he despised his father for.
An ex-gang member and struggling alcoholic goes on a journey to find every ounce of passion he'd once lost. He reunites with friends, foes, and the love of his life, Rae Withers. The same bureaucrat who broke things off with him at her father's dinner party when he was fifteen. Sidney also reunites with Hanna O'Neil, his childhood friend from the orphanage. Hanna is a fickle pickle. Better said, she's still obsessed with "August, " as she calls him, despite his preference.
Sidney tries to look past Hanna's weird behaviors while trying to keep her happy and chasing after Rae at the same time. With two concussions, on top of fighting for sobriety, can Sidney defy the odds and bounce back?Even after a dreadful conclusion that he could have never imagined?
